"East African nations should work towards promoting stability in the region other than training to respond to humanitarian crisis", the commander of the US army African command, Gen. William Ward has said. Ward said if the East African nations are committed to providing stability, the US would be eager to work with them.

He explained that the joint training exercise code named 'Natural Fire 10', which has been going on in northern Uganda was successful. He said the troops had held medical camps, rehabilitated infrastructure and done military drills. Ward said based on the US policies and resources, the US army would support the East African troops in handling disasters.
The Secretary General of the East African Community, Juma Mwapachu, said: "This is a true expression of a new level of partnership and friendship with the US army."
